What It Looks Like When You Blow a Motor in a Dirt Mod – Jonathan Mawhinney at Mohave Speedway

Writer: Troy SmithTroy Smith

March 21st at Mohave Valley Raceway started like any other night for Jonathan Mawhinney and the 12LF Dirt Modified—but ended with a roar, a puff of smoke, and a hard-earned lesson in racing heartbreak.

Starting from 10th position, Jonathan was on a mission. With clean, aggressive moves and calculated lines, he powered his way through the field, pushing into third place with the front pack in his sights. Then came the unexpected.

🔥 The motor let go.

Caught on video, the moment is a raw reminder of just how fast things can change in dirt track racing. One second you’re charging forward—next, you’re coasting off, your night done early. The team is still reviewing the full extent of the damage.

Despite the setback, the 12LF team is already regrouping. A new motor is being prepped, and all eyes are set on April 19th, when Jonathan returns to Mohave Speedway for redemption.

💪 Stay tuned—the comeback is always stronger than the setback.
